Day #42: Tucson, AZ- Casa Grande, AZ 65.1 Miles

We had a great selection for breakfast this morning at the Hampton Inn in Tucson, and we packed up a lot of food for the road. Less than 1/2 a mile away from the hotel, my dad got a flat tire. When that happens first thing in the morning it takes the air out of us as well as the tires.  We changed the inner tube, and spent a while getting all the metal shards out of his tire. So far, sharp metal wires have been the cause of most of our flat tires, not glass or thorns.  Strangely, the sky was covered in thick clouds. This blocked the sun, keeping the temperature 20-30 degrees cooler than it would have been. The road was fairly flat, and we made good time. We stopped  in Toltec, a small town outside of Casa Grande, to get water and snacks. At the store, we told Eddie - the store manager about the blog, and enjoyed the AC and some ice cream.  Eddie pointed us in the right direction for the last 10 miles of our ride.  The sun came out, and it got super toasty outside!  At one point we realized that our handle bars were so hot they would have been difficult to hold without our gloves.   We checked the temperature and it was 106 degrees.  We took our time getting to Casa Grande, then hit up the Walmart on the way to the Best Western. We stocked up on inner tubes, protein bars, and got food for dinner. We put on our bathing suits and are doing a load of laundry (yes, all of our clothes easily fit in ONE load), because people have been moving away from us because we smell so bad - mostly their problem.
