Day# 4: DeFuniak Springs, FL- Crestview, FL 31.8 Miles

We left the Super 8 Motel in DeFuniak Springs at around 7:30 with breakfast to go. For the first few hours, we were blessed with an overcast sky and mild temperatures. Unfortunately, these pleasant riding conditions came to an end, and gave way to scorching sun and strong headwinds of about 10-15 miles per hour. There were times when we actually had to pedal going down hill.  We fought the weather for a few more miles before stopping for breakfast at the side of the road. We quickly drained our water bottles and decided to continue biking to a nearby gas station to refill them. They had a comfortable table, clean bathrooms, and lots of ice water which was a nice contrast to the very warm water we had been drinking all morning. Looking at our maps, we decided to head towards Crestveiw (the nearest town) for lunch and to wait out the hottest hours of the day. Upon arriving in Crestveiw, we found a great place to eat and relax for a few hours. While we ate, we looked at the map again. We realized that the next town with hotels or motels was Milton, FL, over  30+ miles away with literally nothing in between (not even a gas station). We decided to play it safe and stop in Crestveiw for the night. We checked into the Hampton Inn, swam in the pool, did some laundry and relaxed in our room. We are currently getting ready to get dinner, and hopefully we will go to bed early tonight so we can hit the road early to avoid the heat.  Tomorrow we hope to make it to Pensacola.
