Follow us as we cycle our way throughout the USA. While our ultimate objective is to see this beautiful country of ours, we hope that these trips will also be the perfect trip for father-son bonding, getting in shape, learning new things, experiencing America, and raising money for Folds of Honor. We are definitely psyched for these epic adventures, and thanks for coming along for the ride!

Day #5: Crestveiw, FL- Pensacola, FL. 54.3 Miles

Last night we watched the movie Breaking Away at the suggestion of our spiritual leader Rabbi Daniel Cohen.  It is a great biking movie and helped inspire us throughout the day.  We left the Hampton Inn in Crestview  around 7:20 with PB & J sandwiches in- hand. We biked around 20 miles in relatively comfortable temperature with mild headwinds before stopping for breakfast. We have been following Adventure Cycling Southern Tier bike routes supplemented by a Garmin 800 GPS and and IPhone Navigation.  As per our rules, we are trying not to get lost.  The maps took us off route 90 West several times today for some beautiful rides.  We ate on the side of a peaceful country road, and were quickly greeted by baby goats on the other side of a nearby fence (see picture below). We stopped about an hour later at Bob's Canoe Rentals to fill up our waters. We quickly discovered that this was no ordinary place... they had Yoo Hoo perfectly chilled in cans and only 65 cents.   With the temperature feeling like 107 Elliot had 2.  We were also lucky enough to meet Bob himself - a roughly 7 foot man with a beard about 3 feet long.  He was straight out of the Harold and Kumar movie - the scary guy with attractive wife.  After enjoying our cold drinks , we relaxed in the shade, made some phone calls, and then filled our water bottles with ice. We didn't take another long break (only short water breaks) until we reached Milton, FL. After leaving Bob's we turned onto the Black Water Bike Trail. This was by far the best biking we have done so far. The Trail, lined with beautiful trees and bushes, was almost completely flat and was for cyclists and pedestrians only.  It used to be a railroad line that stretched from Alabama to Florida.  Towards the end of the trail, we passed some nice houses, and one of the last ones had a Confederate flag in the window (see below... we think this will be the first of many).  We ate lunch in Milton and relaxed for about 2 hours. We rode the rest of the way to Pensacola on bumpy roads with uneven shoulders (not very pleasant). We checked into the Comfort Inn, ate dinner, tried a new beer (see below), and swam a little before blogging and watching a movie. Tomorrow we hope to make it out of FL into Alabama.
