Follow us as we cycle our way throughout the USA. While our ultimate objective is to see this beautiful country of ours, we hope that these trips will also be the perfect trip for father-son bonding, getting in shape, learning new things, experiencing America, and raising money for Folds of Honor. We are definitely psyched for these epic adventures, and thanks for coming along for the ride!

Day #15: Opelousas, LA- Oberlin, LA. 53.2 Miles

We left the hotel at 7:00am with bagels and muffins from the breakfast buffet for the road. It was fairly cool outside (we think this is because the sun is rising later as we move west). The ride to Mamou, LA was completely flat with very few cars or dogs. Before we got to Mamou we realized Coby's back tire was completely flat.  We filled it up with air but several minutes later it was flat again.  We changed the tire at the side of the road.  Several people stopped their cars to make sure everything was alright.  We have become such experienced bikers that we forgot to take a picture of our achievement.  We stopped in Mamou to fill up our waters and chatted with some people in the all- in- one convenience store (they sold liquor, groceries, school supplies, and hats). They asked us about our bike trip, told us they were from New Jersey,  and pointed us in the right direction (the road took a weird turn/ split and the signs weren't clear). The temperatures continued to rise so we stopped in the shade to drink often. There weren't any towns to stop for lunch between Mamou and Oberlin so we ate some protein bars (we really recommend the new Zone Bars - Cashew and Pretzel flavor -   They don't melt in the heat like the chocolate covered Zone Bars) and peanuts we had in our bags. We arrived at the Oberlin Inn and were told that there is a free shuttle van to the nearby casino! We decided to go and look around (and eat). We were shocked at the amount of people smoking in the casino, and we had a good laugh when we passed a vending machine filled with cigarette packs instead of candy. Needless to say, we both smell like smoke and will need another shower later. In better news, we believe we have found Elvis!! Turns out he will be making an appearance at the Grand Casino on the Coushatta Indian reservation (of all places) between July 26th and August 13th (see picture below). Back at the Inn, we are about to watch the movie Network. We will give our review tomorrow

Thanks for coming along for the ride!
