Follow us as we cycle our way throughout the USA. While our ultimate objective is to see this beautiful country of ours, we hope that these trips will also be the perfect trip for father-son bonding, getting in shape, learning new things, experiencing America, and raising money for Folds of Honor. We are definitely psyched for these epic adventures, and thanks for coming along for the ride!

Day #25: Comfort, TX- Hunt, TX 38.8 Miles

The calm before the storm...

Today we slept late!! We woke up at 8:30 and were out of the hotel by 9:30. Being exhausted from yesterday's challenging hills, we decided to have a short (ish) day today. The roads were pretty flat with some hills (very mellow compared to yesterday). We stopped in Kerrville for a few reasons...#1 it was time for lunch....#2 there was a bike shop and my dad's chain was slipping off the gears a little (not a major problem but definitely something worth getting checked/ fixed). There was a great health- food restaurant across the street and we got salad and a tuna panini (both were excellent). The mechanics at the  Hill Country Bicycle Works put a new chain on my dad's bike and sold us a pump that would allow us to properly inflate our tires (we have found that our pump wasn't inflating them enough). We thanked them and continued on our way. The roads had a lot of traffic but there was a wide shoulder most of the way. Riding with fully inflated tires made a difference as well as riding on smooth pavement.  Yesterday we road on loose gravel for about 30 miles which slows you down and is taxing on your body.  We stopped in Ingram to figure out where we were going to stay for the night and to refill our water bottles. Given that there isn't a hotel for 50 miles past Hunt, we decided to stay there. We called a few places and decided on the River Inn Resort (7 miles West of Hunt). We were told that we would have access to a stove, so we bought some pasta and rice for dinner (easy to make and tastes great). We also got some english muffins for breakfast and some snacks for our ride tomorrow. We arrived at the resort and were thrilled to find that there was a dock leading into the Guadalupe river! People were swimming and BBQing. We dropped our stuff and made a mad dash for the cool water. We went out on a canoe for a little while (see pics below) then we ditched the boat and went swimming. We met a really nice guy and  spoke to him about the hype around the Texas Longhorn cattle, Texas culture, about our trip so far, and the terrain we are headed for. We said goodbye and went to eat our dinner. Overall, we were prepared  for a day like yesterday, but we were lucky enough to get a little bit of a break. However, we know for sure that tomorrow is going to be one of the hardest days we will encounter in Texas. The biker we met yesterday and the people in the bike shop today told us that the hills in Leakey are the steepest  hills in Texas.

Thanks for coming along for the ride!!!
