Follow us as we cycle our way throughout the USA. While our ultimate objective is to see this beautiful country of ours, we hope that these trips will also be the perfect trip for father-son bonding, getting in shape, learning new things, experiencing America, and raising money for Folds of Honor. We are definitely psyched for these epic adventures, and thanks for coming along for the ride!

Day #27: Leakey, TX- Brackettville, TX. 69.8 Miles

Deb to the rescue!

We loaded our bikes into the back of Deb's pickup truck and left the D'Rose Inn around 9:45 (my dad's 1st time in a pickup truck). Luckily we were smart enough to take her up on her offer, because the hill we went up and down had insanely steep and treacherous blind curves with no shoulder. She was nice enough to drive us to Camp Wood, TX (the boarder of Hill Country). Deb said that she was headed there for an appointment anyway, but we suspect she was equally interested in making sure we got out of the Leakey area in one piece.  We made sure all of our waters were full, and headed down the road. The maps told us that there was no place to fill up water bottles for 40 miles.  The road surface was pretty bad (they call it 'loose gravel'...very rough and bumpy) but its been like that since we entered Texas. However, the good news was that we hit few hills they were all manageable. We passed a ranch at one point, and the owner shouted "ya'll are a long ways from anywhere!" He was right of course.... after leaving Camp Wood, we didn't pass any signs of civilization until we reached Brackettville. We arrived in Brackettville at 3:00pm and picked up some food for dinner. The motel we are staying at is located on an old Civil War fort called Fort Clark. We went swimming then ate dinner. There wasn't much on TV but we were lucky enough to catch the beginning of the romantic comedy "Four Weddings and a Funeral"... NOT! The movie wasn't funny and was an overall waste of time (we do not recommend this movie). There aren't many  pictures from today because we didn't really see much but there is an incredible piece of videography crafted by my dad (not that great)... check out the pics and video!

Thanks for coming along for the ride!!
