We left the Amisted Lake "Resort" around 9:00am and filled up our water bottles and 'bladders' at the convenience store down the road. We decided to go a few miles out of our way to see the impressive bird statues on the Amisted Dam, a very quiet border crossing into Mexico (see pics below). We arrived at the dam only to find that it didn't open until 10:00 (it was 9:25 at the time). The two eagles mark the exact US/Mexico border. We stuck it out and waited for the gates to open, then headed back towards US- 90... the road we will be following until El Paso. We enjoyed the mostly flat terrain (a few tough hills but nothing we couldn't handle) and stopped to refill our waters in Comstock. Several miles before arriving in
Comstock we went through a border checkpoint (video tomorrow). An officer filled up our water bottles since we were not allowed inside the station, and the drug sniffing dogs seemed more interested in sniffing for drugs than chasing bikers. When we got to Comstock we thought it would be a good idea to snack on some ice cream sandwiches... turns out we were right! There's never a wrong time for ice cream! In Comstock we spoke to the owner of the store (the only person we saw in the whole town) who told us "this is rugged livin, if ya don't like it, you'll hate it". We rode the rest of the way to Langtry stopping a few times for water along the way and shadowing a Border Patrol jeep riding along the border 30 feet away from us. . As we pulled into the town of Langtry, we saw the Judge Roy Bean visitor center. We had heard a little about him, so we parked our bikes and went inside (mostly hoping to find cold water and some information about the area). We were happy to not only find cold water and free maps, but a museum dedicated to Judge Roy Bean! Behind the visitor center, we found the Judge's original house and saloon (which doubled as a court house). The legends about the Judge are great, and we greatly encourage y'all to read about him online. We took some pictures, thanked the helpful woman behind the desk and headed out. We had planned on camping in Langtry (hence the tent we bought yesterday) but we were lucky enough to find an alternative! We are currently renting a RV and eating our makeshift dinner (tuna, chips, bean dip, protein bars, chocolate chip cookies, Arnold Palmer iced tea, and beer). Our bags will be lighter tomorrow since we are eating everything in our bags tonight. There is no food in Langtry - or anything else - hence the picture below saying we are "nowhere" There is a certain beauty to being nowhere (see video), but it will fade quickly if we can't find more food tomorrow. Staying in a RV has been my dad's dream for years, and he finally got his wish! It has room to sleep 5, and has a fully functional kitchen and AC...not even our tent has AC!! There are some VERY strong winds now, and the RV is shaking a little ... I think we are both tired enough to sleep through it. We moved our bikes inside so we will know where they are tomorrow.
Last night's beer was Modelo... we think it was pretty good... we would give it a 8.25 out of 10.
Tonight's beer is Shiner Bock (brewed in Texas)... we will give our thoughts on the beer tomorrow after careful contemplation.
Thanks for coming along for the ride!

Follow us as we cycle our way throughout the USA. While our ultimate objective is to see this beautiful country of ours, we hope that these trips will also be the perfect trip for father-son bonding, getting in shape, learning new things, experiencing America, and raising money for Folds of Honor. We are definitely psyched for these epic adventures, and thanks for coming along for the ride!
